HE. Eng. Mohamed ben Amor, Director General of the Arab ICT Organization, took part in the twelfth Regional Cybersecurity Week 2024, held from October 28-29 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The event, organized by the Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Cybersecurity Centers, brought together leaders and experts in cybersecurity to address pressing challenges in the field.
During the session on fostering cooperation among international organizations in cybersecurity, HE the Director General highlighted AICTO’s pivotal initiatives in this critical area. He emphasized the three core pillars underpinning the Organization’s cybersecurity and digital trust efforts: enhancing technical protection, safeguarding data, and promoting digital sovereignty across the Arab region. These initiatives are designed within a cooperative framework that connects Arab states with regions worldwide to foster the adoption of modern technological policies and strategies.
The Director General also underscored AICTO’s commitment to developing strategic policies and providing technical support to member states. These efforts aim to fortify digital infrastructure and instill confidence in cyberspace, aligning with global best practices to counter cyber threats.
He also referenced the “Arab Cybersecurity Strategy”, prepared by AICTO in 2022. This strategy takes into account advancements in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, offering practical recommendations to balance AI innovation with ethical responsibilities. The strategy is part of the AICTO’s program on “Cybersecurity” which operates under the slogan “Safe Arab Cyberspace,” in collaboration with both regional and international partners.
In concluding his address, His Excellency called for strengthened international cooperation to confront cross-border cyber threats. He encouraged the adoption of a comprehensive and sustainable framework for collaboration, aimed at building a secure digital environment and fostering a prosperous digital economy across the Arab region.
