Within the framework of the Arab ICT Organization’s support for activities and events organized by Arab countries to develop the ICT sector in the Arab region, AICTO held its 27th Executive Council session and 21st General Assembly session on May 27 and 28, 2024 alongside GITEX Africa Morocco 2024 in Marrakech.
The Executive Council meeting focused on presenting the Organization’s achievements for the 2023-2024 period and adopting the action plan and budget for the 2025-2026 years.
The Executive Council meetings were chaired by H.E. Eng. Ihab Sobeih, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in the State of Palestine, and attended by H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Omar, Director General of the Organization, as well as representatives from the Republic of Tunisia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Palestine, the State of Libya, and the Arab Republic of Egypt. Additionally, the League of Arab States was represented by His Excellency Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Raed Ali Saleh Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations.
One of the most important decisions made during this session of the Executive Council was the adoption of the Organization’s work plan and budget for the years 2025-2026.
The 21st session of the General Assembly of AICTO was held on May 28, 2024, chaired by His Excellency Mr. Belaid Nawar, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform in the Kingdom of Morocco. The session was attended by representatives from the Republic of Tunisia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the State of Libya, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Republic of Yemen. Additionally, the League of Arab States was represented by His Excellency Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Raed Ali Saleh Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations.
The activities of the open session of the 21st General Assembly were attended by the Civil Aviation Organization, the Arab Union for Internet and Telecommunications ARISPA, and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
During this session, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Arab ICT Organization (AICTO) and (ISESCO). This agreement aims to develop joint programs in promoting the use of technology to achieve sustainable development and enhancing the capabilities of Arab and Islamic countries. It also focuses on developing mechanisms to stimulate innovation, raise awareness, and encourage investment in innovative solutions for all segments of society, ensuring equality and equity, particularly by leveraging the unprecedented opportunities provided by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Among the most important resolutions adopted by the current session of the General Assembly are:
- Approval of the decisions from the 26th and 27th sessions of the Executive Council of the Organization.
- Election of the following members to the Executive Council of AICTO for the years 2025-2026: Republic of Tunisia, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Republic of Sudan, Republic of Iraq, State of Palestine, State of Libya, Kingdom of Morocco, and Arab Republic of Egypt.
- Presidency of the Executive Council: State of Palestine.
- Vice Presidency of the Executive Council: State of Libya.
